   WHO AM I

For those who don't know me, my name is Kaela Wilbur and I am a 20 year old college student from Northern Virginia.  I'm currently in the process of getting a degree in Environmental Science from Rice University in Houston, Texas, but when I hiked the trail last Summer I had recently dropped out of Clemson and was trying to figure out what to do with my life.

When I'm not hiking, I enjoy playing sports.  I was a rower for 5 years, a rugby player for 1, and am currently dabbling in pole dancing.  I worked part time at an internet company the Fall before my hike and am the master of the side-hustle, constantly seeking out new ways to fuel my wanderlust.  Indoor activities I enjoy are cooking and art of any kind.  I love animals (cats), plants, and place a great deal of value on individualism. My passions include destroying the stigma around mental illness, supporting LGBTQ+ rights, and saving the environment.

What I looked forward to most about this hike was the chance to get to meet awesome, adventurous, and likeminded people, all while having a challenging adventure.  The most valuable thing I learned while hiking was how to enjoy being alone and not be emotionally dependent on others to enjoy life's pleasures. Thanks so much to all the wonderful people who supported me on this hike!
